Provident’s Young Professionals recently hosted a panel discussion at the main branch of the St. Louis Public Library aimed at sharing information about the opioid crisis in Missouri, which takes nearly 1,000 lives each year.

Panelists included Dr. Kanika Turner, a family medicine physician and Opioid STR/SOR consultant, and Dr. Rachel Winograd of Missouri Institute of Mental Health and UMSL.

The panelists discussed interventions that work to combat the opioid crisis and shared information about actions that could be taken by attendees. Samples of Narcan, a medication that can treat narcotic overdose in emergency situations, were distributed to those who were interested.
