KMOX Talks to Provident During Suicide Prevention Month
KMOX’s Michael Calhoun interviewed Provident’s Director of Crisis Services Jai Wilson about suicide prevention and the success of the 988 crisis line in September. Wilson shared resources, insights, and thoughts on the success of the crisis line.
Calhoun also asked Wilson about the toll answering the call takes on crisis workers.
“That’s one of the things we talk about constantly because, as much as we want to help other people, sometimes it’s hard to put those actions into place for ourselves. It does take a toll on you when you listen to some very difficult experiences,” said Wilson. “There is second-hand trauma that comes along with that. Our team makes sure they have breaks, and they lean on each other. They’re not only helping people across the State of Missouri, they’re also helping each other.”
