Provident’s Crisis Services department has been answering crisis hotline calls for decades and this week marks the third anniversary of 988. The growth of the 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the broader crisis care system has been a remarkable success—made possible by the dedication of partnerships across the country.
In just three years, the national line has responded to 15 million contacts. Each of these conversations—whether by phone, text, or chat—has played a role in saving lives and supporting people in every state, territory, and tribal community in the U.S.
A study published in May, led by Madelyn Gould, found that nearly 98% of callers reported that their crisis call helped them, and 88% said the call prevented them from taking their own lives. Link to study
These life-saving outcomes are only possible because of the compassionate and skilled support provided by 988 Lifeline counselors across the nation, and we are proud to be part of this team.
