One metric that indicates a program is working is growth, and we’re pleased to say the work of our Behavioral Health Intervention Specialist team has expanded to include four schools: University City Middle School, Hazelwood East High School, Jennings Elementary School, and Grandview Elementary School in Jefferson County.
Started in 2023 as a way to provide support to students in the midst of an acute therapist shortage, specialists in this program are embedded in schools to provide real-time behavioral health support and care coordination to students grades K-12. Students may self-refer for services, as may educators, administrators, and parents/guardians.
The specialists are trained to de-escalate crises, coordinate longer-term care, and promote the stability that contributes to life and academic success.
Thanks to the St. Louis County Children’s Services Fund, the Jefferson Foundation, and individual donors, services are provided at no cost to the school or students and their families.
