New Organization Is One of Largest Behavioral Healthcare Providers in the Region

June 20, 2023 (St. Louis, MO) — Provident Behavioral Health is pleased to announce that Care and Counseling has joined the agency’s practice. The combined nonprofit will serve approximately 4,000 people directly in the St. Louis region and another 40,000 across Missouri and the U.S. through crisis hotlines annually.

“As a society, we are in the midst of a prolonged mental health crisis, what our industry considers ‘a second pandemic,’” said Kevin Drollinger, president and executive director of Provident. “Joining with Care and Counseling will allow us to expand our footprint within the region so we can deliver exceptional services to even more people.”

The agreement was finalized on June 15, 2023, and the combined agency will operate under the Provident Behavioral Health name. This move makes the agency one of the largest behavioral healthcare providers in the region.

Care and Counseling was founded in 1968 as an interfaith agency dedicated to providing mental health services to children, adults, and families as well as congregational and clergy training. Existing clients can now access in-person care through the combined agency’s expanded office locations, including treatment plans that incorporate faith and spirituality as requested, as has been the long-standing practice of both agencies. They will also be able to utilize Provident’s 24-hour crisis services, Access Center, psychiatric services, and community education resources.

“Provident and Care and Counseling share a commitment to offering accessible, inclusive, and high-quality behavioral health services. Together, the agency will be able to reach more people and provide them with a broad scope of care,” said Ted McKinney, the former Executive Director of Care and Counseling.
