As we approach Juneteenth on June 19, Provident honors a pivotal moment in American history: The day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
As a mental health organization, Provident recognizes that true freedom is experienced both physically and mentally. Juneteenth offers the opportunity to reflect on our shared history, the ongoing challenges of racial injustice, and our commitment to providing culturally informed care to our clients. Let freedom ring!
