Pat Harkins is a Survivor of Suicide.  Her son, Alex, died by suicide in 2009.  After much counseling and support groups, she has devoted herself to raising awareness about suicide and helping others recover.  Here she shares her story with Nichole Berlie from KSDK.  This Saturday, July 19th, Provident will be hosting our Annual Rooster Run

Technically I am a “survivor of suicide” but that title does not define me nor serve my mission.
I am a daughter who loves and misses her father.  I am a mother who wishes her son could know his grandpa. I watched mental illness destroy a person I love and I want to let people know their life is meaningful and that a brighter future is possible.

As we acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Month (May), we realize there's so much territory to cover to understand mental illness, to raise awareness and really begin to understand the depths of what it means and how to help.  The following video link - - is a glimpse into five survivors' stories of loss.  Their willingness to share so that they might be able to help others is a testament to their strength and courage.  Provident's weekly Survivors of Suicide support groups in Creve Coeur and St. Charles

We want to THANK all our generous donors for helping us support our clients to a brighter future!  Your gifts will contribute to our mental health counseling, suicide prevention and community outreach.  We received over 78 gifts totaling $6945. Give STL Day is a 24-hour giving event with huge, local impact. Help us celebrate the Greater St. Louis Community Foundation's 100th birthday and propel St. Louis to the top as we compete with other community foundations across the country to see which city gives the most.  Over 300 nonprofits have signed up for this event in St. Louis which will take place on May 6th.
