We're breakiing out into dance on Monday, October 22, shortly after 5 pm at Kiener Plaza with our flashmob to eradicate the silence surrounding mental illness. MIMH (Missouri Institute for Mental Healh), Provident, Inc., the Independence Center and Clubhouse International are conducting a flashmob in conjunction with the Clubhouse Seminar and March on Market Street on Tuesday, October 22nd at 5 pm.  Check out the St. Louis Beacon's article, October 16th, for more details

Provident received the 2013 “Board of Directors Award for Collaborative Partnership” during Employment Connection’s Annual Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, September 19th.  Marge Schicker, Provident’s Reintegration Services Supervisor, accepted the award, which was presented by Employment Connection’s  CEO Brenda Mahr, and J.D. Luhning, President of the Board of Directors.

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), “Every 15 minutes, someone in the U.S. dies by suicide.”  Provident’s Life Crisis Services, Saint Louis University and Active Minds want to raise awareness and hopefully lower the number of suicides.  They have initiated the First Annual Suicide Prevention Education Week.  Several panel events and workshops are scheduled throughout the week of September 9th—September 14th

Judge Jimmie Edwards of the 22nd Judicial Circuit in St. Louis, Missouri, has been named recipient of the 2013 William H. Rehnquist Award for Judicial Excellence by the National Center for State Courts. One of the nation’s highest judicial honors, the Rehnquist Award is presented annually to a state court judge who exemplifies the highest level of judicial excellence, integrity, fairness, and professional ethics. Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts Jr. will present the award to Judge Edwards during a ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. on November 21.

Provident has just received a three-year $180,000 federal grant from SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) for HopeAfter, a program designed to provide intensive case management to individuals considered high risk for suicide.  Provident will work with St. Louis University Hospital and Crisis Intervention Team police officers to identify individuals who have attempted suicide, or who are determined high risk as defined by other clinical symptoms.
